I mentioned two weeks ago that I’ve been working on a short story collection to release over Halloween.
In the process of doing that, I decided to make up a writer who “created” these stories which I was simply editing and narrating.
However, to do THAT, I had to invent information about this other writer, R.E. Helmen, including why he supposedly let me edit his stories and who he actually is (he is in fact an award-winning short story believed to currently be living in the Mt. Athos monastery in Greece).
I eventually decided, since I’ve done some film work in the past, that I must have met Helmen because we were both interested in making short films and he asked me to help him with a project.
That led to something I didn’t expect: I had to invent a short film that Helmen had “made” in his film school days, which I decided to release on YouTube as an early promo for the short story series.
You can see the film here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkJIdmYvAfE
It’s titled Strictly Tasteless Violence and may best be described as a satire about slasher films and experimental arthouse films, with a dash of Monty Pythonesque humor for good measure. If that doesn’t pique your interest, or just leave you confused, then I don’t know what will.
